When I go to the right, they go to the right, to the left, and it's just an enjoyable hobby," Elm Park resident Sheryl Moller said. They follow me like they're little puppies. People attending the show say this is more than a competition they say collecting the fish and tress has a calming effect. "That's why we call them is beautiful jewels, living jewels," said Terry Alexander of the Tri State ZNA Koi Club. Judges say koi fish are some of the most distinct creatures in the world there are more than 200 different varieties. Judges are looking at body shape, color, skin texture, and size. People from all over the country are on-hand, participating in the competition. "We just want everyone to come here and see what this hobby is all about," said Judi Caputo, the Tri State ZNA Koi Club vice president. The event was organized by members of the Tri State ZNA Koi Club, and organizers say the goal is to educate people about the fish and to give collectors a chance to compete. "They're very interesting, and a colorful fish to look at," said one attendee. For the first time, they are being featured at a show at Snug Harbor. Many have never heard of it, but the koi fish is known for its beautiful colors. NY1's Krizia Ruiz filed the following report.
